Board of Education Vacancy
The Western School District is seeking applications from interested community members to fill a short term appointment on the Board of Education due to the resignation of board member Susan Conklin.† This appointment is through the November 2016 general election.

The November 2016 general election will determine who will complete the remaining two (2) years of Mrs. Conklinís six (6) year term ending December 31, 2018.

Persons interested in this short term appointment should respond with a letter of interest providing name, address, contact information, and why you would like this board appointment, no later than noon on Thursday, July 9, 2015 to Western School District, Attn: Dr. John Sheets, Board President, 1400 S. Dearing Road, Parma, MI 49269.
Candidates must be registered voters of the Western School District.††

Carmike Plaza Cinemas
The Kiwanis Club of Jackson is sponsoring a 2015 Summer Kid Series of low cost movies at Carmike Plaza Cinemas this summer. Click here for a list of movies, dates and cost information.

Basketball Hoop Shooting Club
The Western High School Girls Basketball team is sponsoring a basketball shooting club this summer for girls that will be entering grades 3-12 for the 2015-2016 school year. No sign-up is necessary, just start shooting hoops and keeping track. Shot logs do need to be submitted monthly to Coach DeBacker in order to qualify. Bean Kids Marathon
It's time to get signed up to participate in the 2nd Annual Bean Kids Marathon! Fill out the registration form and return it to the office before school gets out on Friday, June 5. Then keep track of your activity all summer on the training log. You'll complete 25 miles of activity and then we'll do the last 1.2 miles together on Friday, September 18! What a great way to stay active and connected during the summer months!

North Star Summer Programs
North Star summer programs are being offered to students aged 6-10 years old. They have a Music and Movement program and also a Spanish program. Check out their flyer here for details on both programs.

Middle School Cross Country
If you are an upcoming 6th grader, you can run! Summer running schedules have been made and posted on the WMS website. Information about summer running and the upcoming season can be found in the summer training packet. Please have parents email Coach Woodruff at taylor.woodruff2010@gmail.com to get on the email list or ask any questions.

Summer Tennis at Albion College
Albion College is offering Summer Tennis Programs to students ranging all the way from Kindergarten to high school! There are six week-long sessions and the cost is $30 per week (you sign up for weeks individually, so you don't have to do all six). Click here for more information.

Creative Summer Opportunities
Jackson School of the Arts and Jackson Symphony Orchestra are offering fun and creative classes this summer. Click here for details.

Noah's Arkademy Christian Preschool
Noah's Arkademy Christian Preschool is now accepting registrations for fall 2015-2016 classes. They are also scheduling school tours. Click here for more information.

Nerd Camp Returns to Western!
Western School District is offering Nerd Camp to the first 500 applicants that are currently in grades 1-6! This is a FREE event that takes place on Tuesday, July 7 from 5:30-7:30 pm at Western High School.†Participants will attend three author sessions and receive a pizza dinner! Each participant will also take home with them: a book by one of the guest authors, a writing journal, and a mechanical pencil. Click here for more information and a registration form.

Young Americans Summer Camp
The Young Americans group is offering summer camp for students entering third grade through college age. Students will take master classes in voice, dance and improv while preparing for their show at the end of the week. The cost is $189 per student (with a reduction for multiple registrations). There are extra flyers in the office at Bean. You may click here to see the flyer, but some of the text is light and difficult to read.

Kintigh's Pool Summer Programs
Kintigh's Pool is offering their Summer 2015 Swim Program to swimmers aged four to adult. There are four different sessions available, click here for more information.


Airport Lanes Summer Bowling
Airport Lanes is offering exciting bowling opportunities for adults and kids this summer! There is also a free summer bowling program for kids 12 and under. Please register with Airport Lanes to get details about the program and receive your free pass. Click here for more details.

Childrenz Challenge
The Childrenz Challenge is coming on August 22, 2015.† Participants will receive a t-shirt, photo, lunchbox, lunch and other entertainment!† Click here for more information.

Jackson Area Manufacturers Association and the Academy for Manufacturing Careers are teaming up to offer four summer camp programs this year!† Camps are: "I Can Make It! Camp," "Machining U," "Girl M-Powered," and "Underwater Remote Operated Vehicle Camp."† The camps are week-long and range in price from $149-199.† Click here for information on all camps.
